For my second installment of the Lust List, I bring you some sweet 20’s and 30’s -inspired earrings that are trending right now (sorry for using the term “trending”). I’ve always been a fan of art deco – I find it fun, funky, and hip but very chic at the same time. We’ve got some Gatsby going on here (very excited for the upcoming Baz Luhrmann remake by the way), inspired by stained glass windows, geometric shapes, swanky colors (yes, colors can be swanky), and metallic accents. I think all of these would be a great pop to a little black dress or an otherwise simple outfit.
Welcome to the first installment of what (I hope) will be a weekly feature, inspired by my favorite blogger, Heather (who also named this column – I won’t even pretend I’m as good as her at alliteration – love you ladyfrand!); basically, all the great shit that I want to buy out there on the interwebs that I can’t/should not afford!! I gave up online shopping for Lent, but just like marriage, you can look, you just can’t touch (email me for more iron-clad marriage advice and just call me Dr. Phil).
I’m a total bag lady, so I find it appropriate that first lustful installment would be bags (it just occurred to me that it’s incredibly inappropriate to be talking about lust (in an encouraging way) during Lent…sorry…). But…BAGS! Be still my heart. I’d just die for one of the Fendi ones. And if I ever spend that much money on a bag, someone go ahead and kill me (and use the life insurance money to pay off the credit card bill). Luckily, Queen Diane (Von Furstenberg) has some pretty great, fun alternatives. ANYWAYS, I wear a lot of black and gray to work, so I really love these statement colorblock bags. They’re multi-color, but I think paired with the right outfits and styling, these can act as neutrals. Come on Easter, Mama needs a new
pair of shoes awesome work bag!
Even though my car claimed it was 109 yesterday, I’m already looking forward to fall. It’s football season finally, and I’m looking forward to cooler weather, pumpkin flavored things, and most importantly, fall clothes! You know, because of all these things, fall might actually be my favorite season. I already ordered these burgundy jeans that I’m super pumped about. Also on the list, some tan boots and possibly a tan bag (maybe not of the caliber of the one below, but a girl can dream). I’ve seen a lot of blue pumps around too, so they’re on the wish list as well – what a fun way to brighten up your outfit!
I’ve always loved art. A lot. I studied in art history in college, love museums, you know I care a lot about aesthetics, whether on the wall, in a room, or on my bod, and I’ve always had secret (ok, not so secret) dreams of working in the art world (very Charlotte from Sex and the City, I’m SO cheesy). For the most part, to work in the art world is to be poor. I interned at the Crow Collection of Asian Art one summer in college. The director of the museum had been waiting her whole life for a job like she had. She had a masters in art history and taught elementary school art for years for lack of legit art job opportunities. This opportunity came for her when an entire new museum opened. Lucky duck. But those opportunities are so rare. I remember my dad always telling me “just become a lawyer and you can buy art”. Duly noted, father, you win.
Anyways, I have found that I can indulge both my passion for art AND for bad reality tv (who knew that would ever be a combination?? I guess that’s sad for the art world…) with the new Bravo (of course!) series, Gallery Girls. The show is split between the snobby upper east side sorority girls (all fake blonde fake tan) and the just as snobby but ostentatiously anti-snob creative girls from Brooklyn (all pale, wear black, messy hair, red lipstick). It’s just like the crips and the bloods. Just.
All of these girls seem to work for free,
stuffing envelopes interning and the upper east side ones are very open about how their daddies are paying for everything (this I believe is why Papasan wanted me to go to law school – I figured you out, Dad). The Brooklyn girls act like they live there because it’s hip and cool, but really, I think it’s because Manhattan is expensive as balls. Anyways, it’s fun to watch the fashion, the gallery openings, and but of course, as any good Bravo show, they deliver on the chick drama. Until the fall tv shows start, this’ll do.
See Natalie Portman’s Wedding Dress by Rodarte! – UsMagazine.com.
I got this link from my gorgeous friend and bride-to-be who will TOTALLY look better than Natalie does at her wedding. Now, let me start with how much I love Natalie Portman. I think she’s beyond gorgeous, classy, super smart – really, one of my favorite celebrities. I normally think she has ah-mazing style. But this wedding dress?? ICK. Is she hiding something on her arms? A rash? Boils? Scales?? WHY??? She looks frumpy and chubby and she’s NOT (unless she’s knocked up again … this might be how rumors get started…).
And that headgear? Left over from her Star Wars days??:
I actually think I like the Star Wars look better… No wonder images from her wedding were so under wraps. I’m very happy she’s happy though.
